The Sacristan sets up for Mass by preparing such items as the sacred vessels, linens, bread, wine and sacred texts. He/she coordinates with the Ushers, Greeters, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, and Altar Servers. This means Sacristans need a very good understanding of the other Liturgical Ministries. They also promote an atmosphere of quiet and prayerfullness in the sacristy and carry out their role under the direction of our priests. Sacristans strive to see their ministry as not merely routine. As ministers at the Altar of the Lord, they witness to the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
